Intimate Machines PVT Ltd, is the flagship company for the Impel Group. This was conceived and started by K C Sanjeev, a Marketing Professional and N Kumar, an Inventor.

MileStones

1989 - K C Sanjeev, a young Marketing Professional, teams up with N Kumar, an inventor, to float Intimate Machines (P) Ltd, in Trivandrum - A Coastal town in India.

1990 - From the drawing boards, the Prototype of a Perfect Binding Machine is developed. They decide to call it WELBOUND.

1991 - After a few Road Shows and modifications, the first commercial model is brought out. The factory is set up in approx. 2000 sq ft with few crucial plant & machinery. A few machines are sold in Karen, their home, and neighboring States.

1992 - P.Sajith, another Marketing Professional joins as the full time Director for Sales. Branches are opened in Delhi and Chennai. The product undergoes changes, based on Customer Feed-back. Around 25 machines are installed by then.

1993 - Participates in a major Exhibition, at Delhi, in conjunction with the WORLD PRINT CONGRESS. Receives excellent response and decides to open more Branches to look after Sales & Service Activities. A Regional Business Centre is set up in Bombay to look after the business interests in the West & North Indian Regions. Develops an excellent After Sales Support System.

1994 - Efforts put in for Market Development. This included meeting the Print Buyer, Viz. Publisher, Text Book Corporations etc, and dispelling any fear they have on Un-Sewn binding. Publisher - Machine User/Service provider meetings were arranged on a regular basis. These activities resulted in a fairly good demand for the product - WELBOUND. Intimate Machines (P) Ltd, wins the Award for Quality Products (State Level) from the President of India (for the year 1993). Completes the construction of the new Factory (over 30000 sqft in area) and modern Plant & Machinery added on.

1995 - Intimate Machines (P) Ltd, wins the National Award for Quality Products (All India Basis) from the President of India (for the year 1994). Ties up with Hindustan Lever Ltd (UniLever Group), the largest Corporate Entity in India, for the distribution (and for providing Technical Support) of the adhesives manufactured by them in Collaboration with National Starch & Chemicals. A separate company is floated for this Activity, Impel Marketing Services, with Bombay as the Head Office. Conducts Seminars with the help of experts from NSC, like Tony Clark, in different parts of the country for building awareness on Perfect Binding Technique. With the arrival of this tie up , a lot of adhesive -- machine related Binding Problems were identified and sorted out. Started extending technical support to competitors installations, till then unheard of in this Industry in India, for binding related problems. The NSC Experts trained our Service Engineers on the machines like Kolbus, Muller Martini (Baby Pony / Pony), Buffalo, Horizon etc. 1995 also saw unprecedented demand for WELBOUND and the Installation Base grew to 150

1996 - 2 more products (prototypes) were demonstrated to the Industry. TRIDENT - A stand alone Three Knife Trimmer & WELBOUND 2000 - A five Clamp Perfect Binder. WELBOUND becomes the Industry standard for Perfect Binding in India. Adhesive Sales grow by 200%. Installation base reaches 230 machine

1997 - Installation base reaches over 300 machines. Plant geared up for a production of 10 machines per month.

1998- Takes over a Company involved in manufacture of CNC Machines in Chengannur , Kerala . Impel Machines Pvt Ltd is formed and the Advanced Technology Plant is dedicated towards manufacture of High End Machines. The sales of Welbound reached an all time high and the installed base is over 400 machine.

1999 - Launches India's First Form Gathering Machine -Pickwell at the Print Pack exhibition in New Delhi. Prepares themselves for meeting the new challenges facing the Graphic Art Industries, Globally. Intimate Machines PVT Ltd gets the ISO 9002 Certificate, making it one of the very few companies in this industry in India to have the same.

2000- The Installed base of Welbound stand over 800 machines, making it one of the Leading Companies in this field, in terms of volumes, world wide. National Starch & Chemical come on their own to India, sets up their most modern plant in Thane, Maharashtra. Impel marketing Services is appointed as their Exclusive Marketing and Servicing Agents for Hot Melt Adhesives - Book Binding. This was a stamp of recognition of the groups capabilities in the field of Perfect Binding by a Leading International Player. Starts exports with Service packages to neighbouring countries. Geared up for Major International Exposure. Looking out for Channel partners for promoting these products outside India

2001- Variants of their largest selling Single Clamp Perfect Binder - Welbound Introduced to the market. Welbound Green - a top of the line single Clamp Perfect Binder & Welbound Blue - An entry level, rugged, perfect binder. "Microbinder" is introduced for Document binding for small print shops and Reprography Centres.
This year also saw the growth of Welbound 2000 - Perfect Binder as the fastest growing brand of Multi Clamp Perfect Binders in India.

2002- Installed Base Crosses the 1000 Mark. Participates in IPEX 2002, the International event for print, Publishing & Media, at NEC Birmingham, UK. The International Marketing efforts of  WELBOUND WORLD WIDE makes great begining.

Indian Operations

National Starch has been present in India through their Agents and technology partners since 1990. The need to establish a manufacturing plant in India was envisaged to support the market requirement better. As it is a policy of National Starch & Chemical to support the Customer in any Application Related problem, be it machine or the consumable, a team of experts in each field are developed. The Indian Operations are lead by Anil Krishna, who is an expert in many of the fields of application for Nationals Products. 

For Book Binding a tie up with Impel Marketing Services was made in Feb, 2000. Impel Marketing Services distributes the HMA manufactured by National Starch & Chemical Indian Operations, for Book Binding. Any application oriented issues are sorted out by Impels Team of Application Engineers.
